Our Journey With Fr. George

I was 13 years old in the fall of 1981, and little did I know that I would meet the man who would change the course of my life. Father George was a priest at St. Anne’s Church, and was also my basketball coach. After many months of coaching, he turned into my best friend and mentor. Shortly after this, both of my parents passed away. Fr. George took me in, raised me as his own son, and became my father figure…. my “pops.”

His words, love and mentoring helped me get through some tough times. More than anything, he always showed up and spoiled me like I was his son. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without him, as I learned so many things from him like; how to be caring, hardworking, passionate, study in school, care for others, and that life is a journey. Our 40 year journey has been amazing. We traveled every year to Vegas, Florida, our lake house, played poker together, boat rides, Pepino's for dinner, and phone calls every morning and night. I will never forget the times he traveled for my high school games and attended my basketball games in college. Because of him, I got into coaching and teaching, so that I could give back to people, just like he did. He significantly impacted lives in so many ways.

He married Marie and me and then became “Grandpa Church” to our two beautiful daughters, Jordyn & Jenna. Our family spring break trips to our timeshare in Florida, our cottage memories, attending the girls athletic games, and many dinners gave us incredible memories, love and support. We became a family with an unbreakable bond. God put our lives together for a reason, and we all benefited from the unique and special relationship that we experienced over the years. Fr. George brought us all closer to the Lord, and we thank God every day for bringing him into our lives. My family loves and adores their Grandpa Church and Father-in-law. He is our hero!

His favorite Bible verse was  2 Timothy 4:7: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Pops, you definitely fought and finished the race. Our journey is only temporarily separated. Our favorite Bible Verse which is helping us get through this difficult time, is 2nd Corinthians 4:18: So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, and what is unseen is eternal. My Pops always taught me Joshua 1:9; Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Fr. George, we love you more than words can ever describe.

Patrick, Marie, Jordyn & Jenna

Fr. Jim Wright:  In loving memory and deep gratitude to Fr. Jim Wright. The Becker Family is forever grateful for his outstanding ministry while at St. Alexander's Church. He was incredibly passionate about "having an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ" and regularly gave sermons of hope, love, connection, and faith.

Fr. Ken Kaucheck: Thank you to Fr. Ken for his outstanding support to the Schluter Family. We are deeply grateful for his guidance, wisdom, and love during difficult times. He is an honorable man who truly serves others.

Fr. Tony Pizzo:  I greatly appreciate Fr. Tony for his friendship, encouragement, support, and guidance when life presents huge hurdles. He is truly devoted to serving those in need through his Midwest Augustinian Mission. Forever grateful, Pat.
